I never thought that things would escalate so quickly from when I guess I started to take the independence of business ownership ‘seriously‘. Escalation in the form of now I’m managing a team of 6 staff and a portfolio of clients at nearly $1mil in agency service and approximately $2mil in revenue all because I had to take a leap of faith and grow with my clients. By seriously, I mean that some of my clients coined that term when I took on a rented office space locally and started employing my staff.
The start of 2024 has been fast and exciting with time simply pacing past with us now deep into February already and many deliverables out the door already. With the staff effectively increasing by +50% (4 into 6) and a new level of seniority within this new staff I’m happy to see work being pushed out into the team and a great buzz within the group.

This leaves me with a now new found opportunity to get the agency in a great position to really go to market where we have not done so before. By getting our systems and processes in place early while we have some great base clients to build upon, this will allow BKC Media to really have a solid launch in the first half of the year and for us to discover what we can bring to the market.
Our position is selective in the market and we base ourselves on primarily doing retainer work across lead generation in manufacturing, automotive, retail, tourism and trades. We have integrated capability with a strong network of professional services focused on media and marketing with production and lead generation at our core.
Where we aim to build this offering of BKC Media is having a strong capability of digital strategy with Business Problems being solved using Digital Media and marketing. As we build more of our case studies to market on how we helped a national brand gain market share and awareness using digital media to broaden their horizons from local and ATL media. Or how we built a statewide business through sponsoring a local sports person and platformed their name into a much larger audience through this sponsorship opportunity.
I think most of all opportunities have arisen strongly by stepping into a business ownership position and creating the best platform with the staff and clients I can build as from seeing so much over my career that I didn’t agree on or had different opinions on. Now I can drive my vision and put my reasoning to the test with a strong talented team behind me. It’s been a huge kick start for the first… let’s say 8 months of being ‘serious‘.
As for the future, I’ll be looking to grow this opportunity as far as I can. I enjoy the work, I enjoy business management and ownership as I can now see with first hand experience how other business owners experience their challenges and use professionals like myself to help solve their business problems. We’ll be aiming to grow more retainer clients especially in the lead generation space and going to market to drive the business forward soon.
